John 16:5-15

In the leading passage and other verses of the Bible, it is easily adduced that knowing and walking in the will of God cannot be outside the personal communion with the Holy Spirit. The work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer is countless – for He is the Spirit and the Breath of the Almighty God. Right from the beginning, we can see the work of the Holy Spirit – Genesis 1:2 | Genesis 2:7.

We believe in the necessity of being filled with the Holy Spirit continually in order to have power to be witnesses for Christ – by life and by word.

There are other distinct works of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer and the body of Christ (the Church); these include and not limited to:

  • Life – Genesis 2:7 | Genesis 7:22
  • Salvation – 1 Corinthians 12:3 | Zechariah 12:10
  • Wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord – Isaiah 11:1-3 | Gensis 41:38 | Exodus 31:3
  • Leadership, guidance and direction – Numbers 11:17, 25 | Numbers 27:18 | Judges 6:34 | Matthew 4:1 | Acts 13:2
  • Prophecy – 1 Samuel 10:6 | 2 Chronicles 20:14 | Acts 2:17-21
  • Gifts of the Spirit – 1 Corinthians 12:3-11 | Romans 12:6-8
  • Fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 6:16-23 | Ephesians 5:8-11
  • Prayer and Intercession – Romans 8:26-27 | 1 Corinthians 2:11-12 | Zechariah 12:10

What are the other works of the Holy Spirit, please give a scripture verse to support this claim?

In the main passage, Jesus Christ made it clear that the person of the Holy Spirit in our lives is to our advantage.

Discussion:

  1. What are the unique advantages of your communion with the Holy Spirit that you can testify of?
  2. Jesus Christ referred to the Holy Spirit with a particular name in John 14:26 | John 15:26 | John 16:7. Do you think believers have taken advantage of this assistance? If not why?
  3. Truth is an attribute that must feature in the life of a believer however the world celebrates the opposite – John 1:14 | John 14:6. Truth is a person. How can we celebrate this truth in our life?
  4. What does being filled with the Holy Spirit mean to you – Luke 1:15 | Luke 2:40 | Ephesians 5:18-21
What are the evidences of being filled with the Holy Spirit?

Personal Reflection: What is your communion with the Holy Spirit? How has your walk and Christian development been with your relationship with the Holy Spirit.
