Romans 5:6-11

The salvation that God offered through Jesus Christ is love amazing!!! Ephesians 2:1 says we were dead in trespasses and sins. We must ask what makes a sinner attractive to God? The lyrics of the very popular song by a repentant English slave trader, John Newton – “I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see”, confirms the restoring love of God who would not stop at anything to see a sinner saved. John 3:16-17 | Romans 8:31 tells us that God gave His best to reconcile a sinning world back to Himself.

The question remains – what makes a sinner so attractive to God to come as man to save man or what is man that God is so mindful of him? This is a mystery that only eternity would explain especially when the Almighty God could easily re-create or replace the whole of the universe. This speaks about the love of God for His creation, His faithfulness and steadfastness.

The scripture says when we were without strength, in due time, Christ died for the ungodly. God never gives up on His promises of deliverance, salvation and provision. He is ever so good and loving.

  • Christ’s Birth, Death and Resurrection fulfil God’s will for His creation – Hebrews 10:5-25 | Mark 9:30-32

  • The love of God through Jesus Christ forgives the sinner who comes to God through Jesus and fully restores the person with a place and a name in eternity – John 3:16-17 | Revelation 21:27.

In this season, we must all remember that we are not saved by our performance but by His love hence mercy and grace is freely supplied to those who would run to God for forgiveness and turn away from their wicked ways – 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Discussion:

  1. John 3:16-17 makes it clear that in Christ Jesus, we can overcome condemnation because of the love of God. What are the ways to develop and maintain the love of God in our lives?

  2. As a church, we believe salvation is a continuous work of grace and as the Bible recommends, we must add ‘work’ to our salvation – Philippians 2:12. What do you understand by working out your salvation?

  3. Can a person fall permanently from grace and what is your definition of rebellion?

  4. Forgiveness: Why do people find it difficult to forgive?
