Isaiah 9:1-7

Jesus Christ our Saviour was revealed in every book of the Bible from Genesis (the Seed of the Woman – Genesis 3:15) to Revelation (The Alpha and Omega – Revelation 1:17 | the King of kings and the Lord of Lords – Revelation 19:16). Every book of the Bible confirmed that God would send a Saviour who would save His people and deliver them from the grip of death.

  • John 5:39 – You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 After the fall of Adam and Eve, God revealed His plan for the Saviour – Genesis 3:15. As we go on in the Books of the Bible, there are prophecies that reveal that Jesus Christ must be born, slain for the sin of the world and resurrect to overcome death. Death in this instance is total separation from God or eternal damnation – (Damnation – from Latin “damnatio” – is the concept of divine punishment and torment in an afterlife for sins that were committed, or in some cases, good actions not done on Earth).

Our deliverance and justification through the Saviour or Messiah (the Anointed One destined to save or liberate His people, hence salvation is only to those who will believe in Him as the Son of God and their Saviour – John 3:16-17), necessitated that the Saviour must come in the flesh. There are many prophecies in the Bible that substantiated this truth from Genesis to Revelation – Genesis 3:15 | Psalm 2:7 | Isaiah 7:14 | Isaiah 9:6-7 | Isaiah 53:5-10 | Ezekiel 34:23-24 | Matthew 1:18-21 | Luke 1:26-37 | John 1:1-17.

  • Luke 2:10-11 – Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord

Jesus Christ was prophesied to come in the flesh as the Apostle and High Priest of our confession and was appointed to go through all we have suffered but was faithful to the end.

  • Hebrews 3:1-2 – Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.

  • Hebrews 4:14-16 – Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

God’s promises through the life of Jesus Christ are to give us overflowing joy.

Discussion:

  1. Read Matthew 1:18-25 – Let us list some of the lessons in this passage.

  2. No Jesus, no life – explain this in relation to the sins of the world.

  3. What is our message in this festive season?

Prayer.
