James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up,”
Thank God for the eighth month of 2025. We place out trust in God and remain thankful always for His plan over us is perfect. Our world today is going through all sorts – we hear of wars, rumours of wars, trade policy changes and wickedness in some quarters. However, we can say that through all of these, our God has been faithful and has kept all of His promises. To God be the glory!
The study focus for this month is “humility”, this is a virtue that is rooted in love and obedience.
Philippians 2:5-11 – “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
We can learn from the Lord Jesus Christ every virtue that characterises our faith walk. To be the believer and servant of God we are called to be, we must be Christ centred with our focus on Him. We must be committed to living as Christ lived to record any lasting breakthroughs and testimonies. Humility is a virtue that lifts us up to the place of recognition and relevance; and we are to come humbly before the Lord if we are to receive any lasting breakthroughs from God Almighty.
To remain humble in a world filled with lusts and pride is a challenge that a natural mind may never overcome. Hence, the study in James 4:6-10 prescribes that humility (before God) is the only game changer if we will defeat the evils of pride and receive grace for supernatural accomplishments. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8), enriched by grace (2 Corinthians 8:9) and need grace to accomplish good works (2 Corinthians 9:8). Grace is the empowering presence and the enabling power of God to be all that God created us to be. This grace is supplied when we choose humility over pride and remain humble for the lifting God has for us.
As we journey the month of August, my prayer is that we will all humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift us up. There are better things reserved for those who will seek God’s face in total love and obedience to His will.
With God on your side, nothing shall be impossible. Fasten your humility belts as we travel with the Lord to the higher levels He has prepared for us.
Shalom.
