Proverbs 15:30-33

The focus for this month is Humility – I am convinced that there is honour for those who will walk the same path of humility as Jesus Christ did.

Proverbs 15:33 – There is a correlation between obeying instructions and humility. God has placed a demand on His word to perform; and those who obey God’s word will receive the rewards that His word produces. It seems very straightforward but why do people (even so-called believers) find it hard, difficult or even impossible to heed to divine instruction?

Exercise: Think of an action you have regretted. Was there an instruction in the Bible or from a mentor, you could have followed for a positive outcome? In hindsight, can you tell why you think you did not follow the correct instruction?

There are a thousand and one reasons why we sometimes deny good and Godly advice. I want us to consider the lack of reverential fear of the Lord and wisdom. Interestingly, the former produces and the latter gives us the right application – Proverbs 1:7 | Proverbs 9:10 | Psalm 111:10. We all know that the right application of knowledge is wisdom.

Our prayer and aim after this study is that none of us will be destitute of the awareness of God or the intimate knowledge of God. Those who fail in understanding the fear of God are devoid of the knowledge of God and are excluded from the winning strategies in life.

In today’s study, our focus will be for God to help us to walk in the fear of God, to decipher/embrace the mind of God & sensibly apply the knowledge gained – this is wisdom.

In a question asked by the disciples and the response of Jesus Christ in John 6:28-29, I want us to ask this question from the Lord – What are the things I must do or get rid of in my life to always remain humble?

Discussion

  1. List what you know to be the source of pride in life? What can be done to eliminate these attitudes in the life of a believer?

  2. In Acts 12:20-24 & Daniel 5 – concerning Herod’s and Belshazzar’s untimely, sudden, and violent death, what are the lessons to learn from this passage?

  3. In Daniel 4:28-37 – Nebuchadnezzar was humiliated and restored. What do you understand verses 34 & 36 to mean?

Prayer.
