FAITH FOR THE UNSEEN

Romans 4:1-23

Introduction:

The mind of God is greater than the collective minds of all the great men that had walked and are still working on the earth. God is greater than all the governments of all the nations of this earth put together. Knowing the Almighty God begins by you being able to hear and comprehend His word; hence the emphasis on the slogan – “Knowing Christ and making Him known!”

There are times God will speak to us and in ourselves the provision to make these things available are not seen. This was the case Abram re-christened Abraham faced in his days. Hebrews 11:3 – “…the things which are seen were not made of the things which are visible.” In our passage, Abraham had to demonstrate the faith to make the “unseen” to become a reality. Let us look at the following scriptures that will help to put context to our study:

Please highlight the challenges of faith or actions that build/confirm faith below.

  • Genesis 12:1-4
  • Genesis 12:7-8 | Genesis 13:14-17 | Genesis 15:1-6
  • Genesis 17:1-11 | Genesis 17:15-22

In our main passage in Romans 4:1-8, there are steps of faith that Abraham demonstrated. Abraham had an unwavering belief in God which aligned him to the Will of God. It is this unwavering belief in God that will spur one to take actions that reveal the purpose and power of The Almighty God.

The good news is that Abraham’s faith was established before the physical circumcision – Hebrews 4:9-12. The essence of our faith is not about working out the promise in our own understanding, which was the mistake of Abram and Sarai in Genesis 16. This mistake produced Ishmael. The essence of our faith is to rely on the grace of God which works out the impossible in our lives through faith in God.

It is the GRACE through FAITH that makes the promise obtainable and, cause the unseen to become a reality! The unwavering faith as demonstrated by Abraham will release the grace required to fulfil what in the natural eyes is unseen and to the natural mind inconceivable.

You are also able to activate the faith for the unseen and impossible.

Discussion:

  1. Abraham had the unwavering belief in God’s goodness and ability to fulfil His promises, and this was accounted to him as being right with God. Does being right with God mean the same as being in the Will of God? – Psalm 84:10-11.
  2. God had to change Abraham and his wife’s names – Genesis 17:5,15. Why do you think God changed their names? Is name calling/change necessary for the re-alignment of purpose? Is it important? See 1 Chronicles 4:9-10.
  3. What is circumcision? What can we liken circumcision to under the New Covenant?
  4. Intercession develops faith and fast-track the promises – Genesis 18:16-22 | Job 42:10. What are the known attributes of an intercessor? Discuss.

Prayer.
