John 17:3 |2 Corinthians 4:6 | 2 Peter 3: 17-18

Introduction:

We are all aware of the existence of God and we know that we are saved through faith by grace.

God says that my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge – Hosea 4:6.

In Philippians 3:10, Paul said that he wanted to know Christ and the power of His resurrection.

Therefore, we must also and always endeavour to have a deeper knowledge of God in our lives.

The Knowledge of God is encountering and embracing Him as Lord so that He becomes the centre of our desires, affections, and knowledge – Psalm 25:12, Psalm 25:4

The Bible says that the word of God must not depart from our mouths, and we must meditate in it all the time – Joshua 1:8, Psalm 119:105

We must always delight ourselves in God’s word – Psalm 119:11, 16.

Every believer should want to know God more every day and all the time.

Let this mind be in you as in Christ Jesus. You must develop yourself to know God in your life. We also must not neglect the importance of the Holy Spirit in our pursuit for the Knowledge of God. He continuously discloses to us what is the heart of God so that we can know God accurately, personally, and intimately. His Spirit speaks directly to our spirit within us, informing us of what God is like and assuring us of God’s love for us.

Let’s read Ephesians 1:17 & Colossians 1:9.

From these two verses above, we know that it is pertinent to know God more in our lives.

It is also very pertinent to know who God is:

  • God is omnipresent (exits everywhere)
  • God is omnipotent (All powerful God)
  • God is omniscient (All knowing God)

Conclusion:

All believers must aspire to have a deeper knowledge of God in their lives and to also have a personal relationship with Him. Paul was longing to know God more in his life – Philippians 3:10. We must borrow a leaf from Paul’s book in this regard. It’s also to our advantage to have a deeper knowledge of God in our lives. God is also called omnibenevolent – A God who is always good.

Finally, God requires that we have these three things:

To do justly, to love mercy and work humbly with Him – Micah 6:8.

Discussion:

  1. What is knowledge and what exactly is knowledge of God? Proverbs 2:1-6, 1 John 4:1-6
  2. Paul said that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection. Philippians 3:10, what do you think Paul is referring to here?
  3. Read Deuteronomy 29:29. What is your opinion about the secret things of God?
  4. What do you have to do to know God better?  Colossians 2:9, Romans 10:17
  5. Pastor always says to us that we should learn how to hear God’s voice for ourselves, does this imply a good knowledge of God? Discuss.
