THE ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

Hebrews 7:20-28

The popular statement in Ecclesiastes 3:14 says that whatever God does shall be forever. Everything that God has done is backed up by a covenant. A covenant refers to a binding promise which is intended to be for a lifetime. This covenant that assures Salvation for those who turn to God through Christ has been backed up by the offering of Christ and His incessant intercession for those who come to God through Him.

  • Jeremiah 31:31-34 | Hebrews 8:10-12 – This new covenant established by the sinless blood of Christ made the old covenant through the blood of animals offered by man obsolete. The fallen man cannot do anything permanent to redeem himself except the Holy God offers a once and for all permanent sacrifice.

  • Hebrews 7:25-28 – In the old covenant, the priest who will offer sacrifices on behalf of people for their sins must first consecrate himself before offering the blood of the sacrifice to the Lord; also, the sacrifice has to be a bull without blemish – Leviticus 4:1-3 | Leviticus 16:32-34.

  • Hebrews 7:24-25 – The unique significance or the assurance of the Salvation that Christ brings is not based on the sinless blood shed only, the resurrected Lord goes before the Father with His blood daily making intercession for us.

  • Ephesians 2:5-8 – The assurance of salvation is encrypted in the Grace supplied by the Lord Jesus Christ. Embedded also in this grace is the ability to re-enter the redemption road through repentance in case of an unforced error.

  • Jude 1:24 – Another uniqueness of this grace of Salvation is that we are empowered with His presence (Immanuel – Matthew 1:23) and equipped with His ability to live as He lived. We have the expectation of appearing in His righteousness before the Almighty God with exceeding joy.

Our salvation is assured in Christ because He lives!

Discussion:

  1. Genesis 3:1-7 – What are the lessons to learn about the deception of satan? What are the practical ways you can suggest overcoming the adversary? 2 Corinthians 2:11.
  2. Hebrews 7:22 | Hebrews 8:6 – What are the better promises?
  3. One thing at the heart of Salvation is forgiveness of sins, why do we find it difficult to forgive? Matthew 6:12 | 1 Peter 4:8.
  4. Hebrews 4:14-16 – Is there a limitation to the number of times we can approach the throne?

Prayer.
